“A visit from our friends” is an intimate gathering with A Sông, an interdisciplinary collective of artists, curators, and filmmakers in Central Vietnam. Taking place from 3:00 – 4:00 PM on Friday, June 12, this casual gathering opens a space for connection with members of the group, Xuân Hạ and Mai Huyền Chi, tracing the journey of how these two artists weave their individual practices together with the collective’s activities and development of A Sông, amidst the blue sea and dense mountains of Đà Nẵng-Quảng Nam.
A collective without a fixed physical home, A Sông has long maintained engagement with communities stretching across Central Vietnam and beyond geographical borders through their artistic activities. In this talk, the artists will introduce the group’s early days of formation, their key projects, and collaborations with artistic communities—from local to regional Central & Southern Vietnam, and across Southeast Asia. Alongside these stories are reflections on the role of the artist-organizer, the impact and experience in working with non-art communities, and the nurturing of young practitioners within the collective’s artistic practice.
