Jason Ting
Jason Ting (b, 1986, Johor Bahru, Malaysia) is a new media artist based in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. He uses creative coding tools to create abstract animated visuals that explore the interaction of form, color, and motion. A graduate of UC San Diego’s Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts program, his work is inspired by forces found in nature, geometric patterns, and light.
During his residency at Rare Sea, Jason continues developing a long-term practice that stems from daily visual sketches in code, evolving from simple digital animations into complex simulations of natural phenomena like fluid and light, and now into bioresponsive installations that respond in real time to the viewer. Engaging with Saigon’s landscape, where streets and rivers intertwine the influences of urban and natural space, he explores the idea of noise from local elements. Connecting this with research on light and color on the nervous system, he has been developing a meditative cove – a state of active presence, a visual environment where we behold our inner lives and the outside world with greater care and clarity.
