About the Residency
Rare Sea’s Artist-in-Residence Program provides artists and cultural practitioners with dedicated time, studio space, and professional support to develop their practice in Ho Chi Minh City.
Based in the city centre, the residency supports research, experimentation, production, and exchange while connecting residents with the cultural and artistic context of Ho Chi Minh City and the South of Vietnam.
A process-led residency
The residency is designed to accommodate different practices and ways of working. Residents may use their time at Rare Sea for research, experimentation, writing, production, or the development of new projects.
There is no requirement to produce a finished work. Public outcomes such as open studios, talks, presentations, or other programs can be developed where relevant to the resident’s practice.

Dedicated working space with 24/7 access.
Research & Curatorial Support
Weekly curatorial sessions with Rare Sea’s curator, along with coordination and support with research and local connections.
Technical & Production Support
Access to technical, administrative and graphic-design support according to the needs of each project.
Public Engagement
Where relevant, residents can develop open studios, talks, presentations or other public-facing programs.
Rare Sea’s Ecosystem
Residents become part of the wider rhythm of exhibitions, events, visiting curators and programs taking place at Rare Sea.

Rare Sea accepts applications from Vietnamese and international practitioners for self-funded residencies of one month or longer.
